Wonder is a good starting point. A useful explanation goes further: it names the process, shows how we know and identifies what remains uncertain.
01 / EXPLAIN
Begin with the mechanism
We write for weather-curious adults who want more than a dramatic image or a technical glossary. Each guide connects familiar observations to physical processes, introducing specialist terms where they help rather than using them as a substitute for explanation.
02 / TEST
Ask what was measured
A radar estimate, satellite retrieval and eyewitness report are different forms of evidence. We explain those differences and prefer primary institutional resources, instrument documentation and established scientific references over unsourced claims.
Independent does not mean authoritative
Moxariventure is an independent educational website. It is not operated by NOAA, the National Weather Service, the World Meteorological Organization, ECMWF or any emergency management agency. Links to those organizations identify sources and official services; they do not imply endorsement or affiliation.
How to read our illustrations
Conceptual renders simplify three-dimensional processes so that relationships are easier to see. They are labelled as illustrations, not presented as event photographs, exact simulations or measured atmospheric cross-sections. Colors are explanatory and should not be interpreted as instrument scales unless explicitly identified.
How we handle uncertainty
We distinguish established mechanisms from simplified models and active research questions. We avoid assigning precise numbers where a general explanation does not justify them. Historical examples supply context, not a claim that every future event will behave the same way.
Corrections and questions
If a statement appears inaccurate, send the page address, the passage and a relevant source using the scientific query worksheet. A clear correction is more useful than a vague objection. We cannot promise a response time, individual image identification or expert review of every submission.
